2025 Activities

A variety of fun and educational activities will be available throughout the weekend, including presentations, workshops, identification walks/forays, and edible mushroom tastings!

Your Tickets allow you to take part in one or many of the awesome events we're presenting including wild foray walks, access to a variety of workshops and an evening of presentations on the fascinating world of fungi on Saturday night.

Be sure to specify which events you prefer when registering.

 

Note: All workshop content and foray locations are subject to change right up until the weekend. While we will try our hardest to ensure that they do not change, sickness and suitability of site location can change on the fly.

Workshops

We will be offering workshops of the following topics:

Workshop 1 - Cooking with Mushrooms (Sat 9am - 12pm)

 

Lisa Winkler - Lisa will be leading a presentation to tempt your taste buds and share with you some delicious ways to cook and present mushroom dishes.

 

Workshop 2 - Cedar Roses (Sat 9am - 12pm)

 

Suzanne Mazereau - Suzanne will lead you through the preparation and creation of cedar roses, cedar crowns and armbands.

 

Workshop 3 - Mushroom Paper (Sat 9am - 12pm)

 

Leanne Reitan - Who remembers putting pen to paper and sending your Grandma a heartfelt plea for money or a love letter to a friend? In these days of email, Facebook and Tinder penmanship and the art of paper has become a thing of the past for many. Even if you were so inclined, you would likely write your love letter on "standard white" You need to do something that makes you stand out from the crowd.  Join Leanne Reitan in a workshop in which you will learn how to make "Mushroom Paper" What better way to make an impression on your loved one. "Sign up and ""May the Spores be with you"

 

Workshop 4 - Nature Art (Sat 1pm - 4pm)

 

Vanessa Martin - Bringing out the inner artist in everyone, Vanessa will be leading an Art Workshop on mushrooms and nature in several different mediums.

 

Workshop 5 - Foraging Ethics and Fungal relationships (Sat 1pm - 4pm) -

 

Heather Scott - Join Heather Scott for a workshop -  discuss foraging ethics, mycological and ecological roles, with an opportunity to step outside. Her perspective and talk as a professional forager draws the audience in as she weaves a mix of personal narrative with a critique of forestry practices, providing insight into the ways fungi and humans are as interrelated beings. Her outside component will draw the eye to the fungal elements often overlooked.  

 

Workshop 6 -Mushrooms in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Sat 1pm - 4pm)

 

Join Martin Osis in learning about "Mushrooms in Traditional Chinese Medicine". Chinese have been using mushrooms as medicine for over 2000 years. The workshop will look at how they use those mushrooms and which ones are the superstars."

Workshop 7 - Mushroom Felting (Sun 9am - 12pm)

 

Heather Zahn - Create felted mushroom themed wall hangings, decorations or key chains to decorate and enhance your world.

 

Workshop 8 - How partnering with fungi can save our world -

 

Eric Hrabovsky - Join Eric learning about mycoremediation and filtration. This session will be stimulate your awareness of fungal remediation capacities and using native fungi and mycelium on waterways. You will explore how mycoremediation can  be used and how it could be used seasonally to lower fecal coliforms, E. coli, and pollution counts. This session will have a classroom session but may also have an outdoor component in which we would do a be working on an install on a small year-round waterway that may benefit from some health improvements. 

 

Workshop 9 - Medicinal Mushrooms (Sun 1pm - 4pm)

 

Martin Osis - In this session you will learn of the benefits of mushrooms in medicine, explore tinctures and creams and he may even create his famous “hot and sour mushroom soup”

 

Workshop 10 - Mushroom Dying (Sun 1pm - 4pm) - Jennifer Cote - Join Jenn from "Moose Mushrooms and Mud" in learning about using mushrooms and/or wild plants to dye cotton fabrics.

Walks/Forays

We will be leading identification and foraging walks/forays throughout the weekend, with many options available:

​

*Please note that the location of the forays are subject to change at any point. We try to find the most diverse areas to forage and may have to change plans on the fly.

Early Bird Friday Foray (9am - 4pm West Twin)

This keener mushroom identification foray will start at West Twin Park at 9am and last till about 3pm. After a day of foraging,

we will make our way back to the School for normal registration.

​

Saturday Foray 1 ( 9am - 12pm Horsey Creek)

This 3 hour mushroom identification foray will start at the School and will take place at Horsey Creek.

​

Saturday Foray 2 ( 9am - 12pm Winkler Farm)

This 3 hour mushroom identification foray will start at the School and will take place at Winkler farm.

​

Saturday Foray 3 (1pm - 4pm Mount Robson)

This 3 hour mushroom identification foray will start at the School and will take place at Mount Robson.

​

Saturday Foray 4 (1pm - 4pm Jackman Flats)

This 3 hour mushroom identification foray will start at the School and will take place at Jackman Flats.

​

Sunday Foray 1 (9am - 12pm Hidden Lake)

This 3 hour mushroom identification foray will start at the School and will take place at Hidden Lake.

​

Sunday Foray 2 (9am - 12pm Pepper Pit)

This 3 hour mushroom identification foray will start at the School and will take place at Pepper Pit.

​

Sunday Foray 3 (1pm - 4pm Belle Mountain)

This 3 hour mushroom identification foray will start at the School and will take place at Belle Mountain.

​

Sunday Foray 4 (1pm - 4pm Lower Rauch)

This 3 hour mushroom identification foray will start at the School and will take place at Lower Rouch.

​

Gala Dinner

On Saturday evening, we will be hosting a delicious mushroom-themed gala dinner provided by Silvia Morrison and Teresa DeReis.

 

Tickets are $25.00 and must be purchased in advance on our Tickets Page

Vendors

There will be a variety of local artisans and vendors for you to browse, including:

  • Mushroom grow kits

  • Tinctures

  • Soaps

  • Fresh and dried mushrooms

  • T shirts, hats, bags

  • A variety of mushroom-themed art and jewelry

Local Attractions

While in the area, be sure to check out our local attractions.

​

Check out the Dunster General Store, where you can get everything from mouse traps to a glue gun, chicken feed, locally-grown organic garlic,  local pottery and more! You can also pick up a beautiful handmade mushroom foraging basket (if you forgot yours). The last Dunster Farmers Market of the season (Saturday Sept 27 11-1)
